Message:

Wakulla County Tourist Development Council Grant

I spoke with Kinsey Miller yesterday and it does not seem likely that the Wakulla TDC will cover the cost of our booklet with any of their grant funds, meaning we cannot submit reimbursement to them to help pay for the cost. They are primarily interested in digital platforms and promoting through social media campaigns and would be willing to reimburse us if we set up advertisements using those vehicles. I’ve discussed with a few of you the fact that we do not typically pay for advertising the event. It feels like we are having to come up with ideas to be able to use the funds. In return for using their funds, they want marketing for Visit Wakulla, which Deb has done on our website, in the booklet, etc. The question I pose to the group is do we want to move forward with this arrangement with Wakulla County TDC? If so, we need to come up with a way to spend at least some of the money so that it warrants our giving them placement in the booklet and in our marketing materials. Please let me know your thoughts. ~A~

Thanks, Linda. As much as we would love to have the partnership with the Wakulla County TDC, their structure and criteria for the grant funds does not fit our needs. Therefore, we are moving forward without them and do not have to display their logo on marketing, shirts, books, etc.

Too bad they can't see the "out of county" promotion via the booklet. Would guess at least half of the 700 get distributed in Leon. Oh well. Now the question is whether we invest a lot of personal time to promote them. It would be nice to think a few extra registrations and maybe even some donations would come from social media ads. Not being a social media person unless necessary, hard to say. I did have concerns about trying to get more people to come for the weekend if accommodations were not available. Just called the 2 biggest places closest to SP (Best Western and Magnuson) and, even though it is also Rock the Dock weekend it seems plenty rooms are still available. There goes my argument to not bother. Still, it is a lot of personal time to invest for unknown potential benefit.
