The Rules:

35th Annual Stephen C. Smith Memorial Regatta - 2008
April 25-27, 2008

This event is a lighthearted, friendly competition to see who can decorate their boat in the most outrageous tropical fashion.  Any boat powered by a motor (including sailing auxiliaries-under power only) can enter.  Participants will be judged by a team of purported experts on how much effort they put in to promoting the redoubtable legend of Jimmy Buffett and the Parrot Heads.  There will be several categories for judging.

1. All participants must sign up at the Smith Regatta registration tent at or before 10:00 am on Sunday, April 27th. Skipper’s meeting @ 10:00 am Sunday beside the registration tent.

2. You will be given 2 numbered cards, one to be taped on each side of the hull as close to the Bow as possible.

3. All boats will meet at the Shell Point Large Tripod at the south end of the Shell Point Channel at 11:30 AM on Sunday.  Monitor Ch. 68 VHF for any additional instructions.

4. Boats should queue up for the parade in numerical order according to the number on your card.

5. A committee boat will be at the Large Tripod, so all boats should remain in the queue area in your appropriate numbered position in a line running south, opposite the beach.

6. The parade will start promptly at 12:00 Noon.  The lead vessel (Number 1) will begin the queue on a northerly course up the channel at the direction of the committee boat.

7. Boats should follow the lead vessel in numerical order with a spacing of 100 yards between boats.  NOTE: Proper spacing buoys will be located in the channel.

8. ANY BOAT THAT HITS ANOTHER BOAT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED, so please be careful.

9. The parade route will run up the channel, turning to port (left or westward) after the marker.  The judges will be situated along the beach, so show your colors to improve your chances of winning.

10. The parade route will proceed North up the channel and turn West at the beach by Marker 11.  Then proceed West along the beach and go between a temporary marker and the Tower on the beach, the temporary marker will be approx. 100' South of the Tower on the beach.  Continue West to another temporary marker and round it to Port.  Then go Easterly along the beach continuing in the main canal, South of Marker 11, along the beach and return to home port.  As always, motor safely on the waterways, be kind and courteous.  Note: See attached course drawing.

11. In order to qualify for a trophy, all boats must stay in numerical order, round the orange marker in the southwest channel, and pass by the finish channel marker in front of the gray townhouses.

12. Participants may then either return to their moorings or anchor out in front of the beach to enjoy the rest of the day's activities, including the windsurfer freestyle competition, and the auction.

13. Awards will be given to the best boats at the trophy ceremony (ca. 2:00 pm) on the beach.
