The Rules:

37th Annual Stephen C. Smith Memorial Regatta - 2010
April 23-25, 2010

This event is a lighthearted, friendly competition to see who can decorate their golf cart in the most outrageous tropical fashion.  Any golf cart powered by a motor can enter, not ATVs.  Participants will be judged by a team of purported experts on how much effort they put in to promoting the redoubtable legend of Jimmy Buffett and the Parrot Heads.  There will be several categories for judging and judges can award “extra credit” if tempted by the entrants (which has been know to happen).

  1. All participants must sign up at the Smith Regatta registration tent at or before 10:00 am on Sunday, April 25th.  Driver’s meeting @ 10:00 am Sunday beside the registration tent.
  1. You will be given 2 numbered cards, to be affixed on each side of the cart.  Numbers must be visible to the judges.
  1. All carts will meet in the Cul de Sac at the end of Beatty Taff Dr. at 11:30 AM on Sunday.

  1. Carts should line up for the parade in numerical order according to the number on your card to ensure an orderly procession.
  1. The parade will start promptly at 12:00 Noon.  The number 1 cart will begin the parade line heading West on Beaty Taff Dr.
  1. Vehicles should follow the lead cart in numerical order with a spacing of 30 feet (appx. 5 cart lengths) between carts.  This will allow judges to view and mark their scores.
  1. ANY CART THAT HITS ANOTHER CART WILL BE DISQUALIFIED, so please be careful.
  1. The parade route will run West down Beaty Taff Dr., past the “beverage truck” where the judges will be situated.  Once past the judges, entrants are encouraged to continue down the road for everyone’s viewing enjoyment.  Each cart is encouraged to provide their own musical background according to their selected theme.
  1. In order to qualify for a trophy, all carts must stay in numerical order.
  1. Participants may then either enjoy the rest of the day's activities, including the windsurfer freestyle competition, and the auction.

  1. Awards will be given to the best carts at the trophy ceremony (ca. 2:00 pm) on the beach.
